Abstract

Class timetable scheduling is a critical administrative task in higher education, directly affecting academic flow, faculty workload distribution and infrastructure utilization. Spreadsheets and basic scheduling tools struggle with the growing complexity of modern curricula, especially the multidisciplinary pathways introduced by NEP 2020. This paper presents ScheduleEase, an intelligent web-based timetable management system that automates schedule creation for undergraduate and postgraduate programs. A rule-based scheduling engine assigns subjects, faculty and classrooms to weekly day/period slots while checking classroom availability, batch size, subject distribution, weekly teaching hours, faculty expertise and departmental constraints, and supports per-department, per-semester and per-section timetables. The MERN-stack platform provides JWT-based role-based access for admins and faculty, an interactive data-entry dashboard, conflict-free timetable generation, faculty-specific timetable views, a lecture-notes file-sharing module, attendance tracking, and a smart absence-cover workflow that suggests available substitute faculty. The design reduces manual effort, minimizes scheduling errors and improves resource utilization, giving institutions a scalable and future-ready scheduling solution.
